0.2 Development Update #5

Hello! Welcome to the fifth Version 0.2 development update. Unfortunately, my one-month predicted work time was extended to three due to some real-life responsibilities that have arisen since then as well as being away from my work computer for a couple weeks. That, plus the size of the event itself leaning towards the lengthy side pushed back its development a bit.

Excuses aside, it’s finally ready to share, so here we are! This will be the fifth long-form weekend event. With an additional 18k words and once again just shy of 500 images, it’s the second longest that I’ve implemented so far. A couple preview images can be seen above.

While I don’t want to set expectations too high and say that Version 0.2 is almost done, since I still have a lot on my plate before it’s ready to ship, I can at least say that these major weekend events are, for the most part, done. Some require a bit of tweaking to alter some plot points that I may not have fully understood at time of writing, but hopefully that is something I can handle easily. That plus all the interlude events and random daily encounters still need to be worked on, just to give you an idea of what’s left.

Furthermore, for the UI aspects of the game, I’ve done reworking of the main way you interact with the map on the day-to-day. While still a work in progress, below I’ve added a before and after to show how the UI has (in my opinion) improved.

Old:

  • Dark, black background
  • Weirdly wide buttons(?)
  • Where am I? Where is everyone?

New:

  • Wow, it’s not the void
  • More compact and readable buttons
  • Clear and concise
  • Glancable shortcuts to see where people are!

That concludes all the updates I have currently. Development of the game will progress a bit slower now due to the previously mentioned real-life responsibilities, but I’ll try not to go dark for too long. I’m not exactly where I thought I’d be progress-wise at this time of the year, but at least it’s progressing. One step at a time.

With that, I ask to please bear with me for just a bit longer.

Thanks for reading and I hope you’ve enjoyed the game so far.
