0.2 Development Update #4

Hello! Welcome to the fourth Version 0.2 developer update. This one’s coming out a bit later than I originally planned, mostly because the event this post centers around ended up being a lot longer than I anticipated and in turn took longer to complete.

Speaking of which, this is the fourth long-form weekend event now! This one comes out to over 19k words and just shy of 500 images, the longest single event-chain in the game so far and the one that contains the most CGs. A small preview can be seen above.

I’d also like to share what’s left to be completed before the full 0.2 update. There is one more major weekend event I have planned after this one that I’m hoping to get done in about a month’s time. After that, a shorter minor weekend event that I might be able to finish in a similar amount of time. As for everything else, I’m also planning on introducing more than a handful of “random encounter” events that the player will get to experience in the downtime between large weekend events.

Other than introducing new story, I’m also planning on reworking what’s currently available in the demo as I’m not fully happy with the state of the released story so far. This includes both the plot and the accompanying visuals. So that’s another box I need to check when the time comes.

Finally, in the same vein as the reworking of the demo story, I’d like to rework the framework of the game as well. For me, the demo served as a proof of concept of sorts and was the first time I really worked with Ren’Py, so everything is kind of just held together with tape. I’d like to “give it a fresh coat of paint”. That is to say, I’m going to rip out the engine and completely rebuild it from scratch, implementing the new UI I have in mind, as well as making everything run more efficiently. Unfortunately, this means that when 0.2 does release, save data from 0.1-0.1.1 will most likely not be compatible.

While I may have listed a lot of things that have yet to be completed, I at least have an idea of what 0.2 looks like. That said, please bear with me for just a bit longer.

Thanks for reading and I hope you’ve enjoyed the game so far.

EDIT: Real-world responsibilities have hindered my ability to work on the next event so unfortunately I’m going to have to delay it. Fingers crossed I can make the July update post.
